Ok so this list was a lot harder to put together than I first thought. I went through about ten revisions and I guess I got it right. This is my list, therefore I need no explanations why I chose each CD, so I'll throw in some videos. NOW without further or do....here it is:
10) Goatwhore- Carving The Eyes Out Of God
9) Mastodon- Crack The Skye
8) Nile- Those Whom The Gods Detest
7 ) Suffocation- Blood Oath
6) God Forbid- Earthsblood
5) Revocation- Existence Is Futile
4) DAATH- The Concealers
3) The Black Dahlia Murder- Deflorate
2) Skeletonwitch- Breathing The Fire
1) Behemoth- Evangelion
So there you have it, agree or not, it's my opinion.
BUT I couldn't leave out some honorable mentions, it just wouldn't be fair.
These just barely missed the cut.
Obscura- Cosmogenesis, Converge- Axe To Fall, Chimaira- The Infection, Baroness- The Blue Record, Cattle Decapitation- The Harvest Floor, Burnt By The Sun- Heart Of Darkness
Cosmogenesis should have been number one hands down, in my opinion. I'm not saying that Evangelion wasn't an amazing album but maybe number 2 would have been better. Mastadon should not have made the list and Nile should have gotten number 3 and Deflorate number 3 1/2. My biggest question is, why didn't Megadeth's Endgame get a number?!?!?
Behemoth, Goatwhore, and Daath-definitely. Evangelion is some of the BEST shit Behemoth has put out in YEARS. Skeltonwitch is rapidly growing up -compare this one to 'Beyond the Permafrost'. It was my pleasure to catch Skeletonwitch on The Blackest of the Black. -Daath and Mastodon, if for no other reason to support metal in Atlanta. -And Suffocation is simply classic.
I also had soft spots for Moonspell, Megadeth (Endgame),Lost Tracks of Danzig, Staight Line Stitch. Stuck Mojo. Destrophy. Motorhead, Dope, Slipknot, Bullet for My Valentine (don't send me any fucking hate mail), Kittie, Zoaroaster (White Dwarf), All That Remains, and Dying Fetus. -Kittie didn't hit the shelves until September along w/Dirge Within -which also does not suck. Order? Sort of.
1. Dope. I love sleaze metal. It was great to FINALLY see them get a break with BLS @ Wild Bill's in Duluth.
2. Zoaroster. -My favorite stoner metal. Dan Scanlan floats through my bedroom ceiling with his big ass touring kit EVERY time. That motherfucker. -White Dwarf. I love pot too. I remember seeing these guys @ Halloween @ the fucking Clairmont. Metal bands that play for strippers rule.
3. ATR. I have always loved Phil as a vocalist, and Ollie on guitar is a virtuoso.
4. Slipknot. Big fucking percussion, and way over the top, I love that shit. It brings a tear to my eye and reminds me of Motley Crue.
5. Kittie. Out way fucking late in the year to get much press. The Lander sisters are going to mop the fucking floor with a lot of bands in 2010 if they can keep the current line-up together. BTW -ARCH ENEMY, coming soon as well. Wouldn't that be a hell of a tour?
6. Behemoth. Any questions. The line up may change every few years, but they are indeed some black heart motherfuckers and I love them for that.
7. Straight Line Stitch. Lets hear it for the little girl that converted for Gospel to Death Metal. Korn lost a guitar player to Jesus, but we won one for a great little band from Tennessee.
8. Mastodon -I have to confess, I love Branflake Dailor's drums. And Troy takes the whole bass player front man to a brand new level.
9. Destrophy. A great band. Ari built his own big ass guitar to make this little band sound huge. They may not be as heavy as you like, but goddamn. When they grow up they will kick Metallica off the fucking stage.
10. Megadeth -Endgame. But I love everything Megadeth does.
11. Skeltonwitch-Destined to be a headliner if they keep improving so tremendously.
12. Lamb of God-Mostly because I like fucking with Randy Blythe's head so much, and Lamb of God makes me feel free to hurt people.
13. A lucky number to end on. I can't WAIT to hear more from The Texas Hippie Coalition. I love Nashville Pussy and hear comes PISSED OF AND MAD ABOUT IT.
Most underestimated band and CD of the year -WITHERED. They rock. They are hard. They will assault your ear drums. The CD was more like an EP (45 minutes) and mixed poorly. All that CD needed to be great was more vocals. My cat could have done that, and remember-that fucking CD had Barney Greenway from Napalm Death-so WTF? If you can, catch the counterpart band-WAITED.
Of course, this all could change. It isn't fucking noon and I have not had my coffee yet.
Nice, I can go with that. Mine would be DevilDriver Pray For Villains, Megadeth-Endgame, Lamb of God-Wrath, Slipknot just cause they are Slipknot and the stage show is so slick. Texas Hippie Coalition- Pride of Texas, AssJack 1, Metallica Death Magnetic - for adding guitar shredding thanks, In This Moment, The Dream - you heard me, Maria can SING and SCREAM. Slayer - World Painted Blood and Throwdown - Deathless
FUCK YES! Mastodon, The Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth, Baroness, Converge, Chimaira, Cattle Decapitation, Skeletonwitch, Suffocation and Ob-Fucken-scura! The rest I didn't shout about because either I don't know enough about them or in Nile's case, don't interest me... >_>
