Star One is the brain child of
Arjen Lucassen of
Ayreon. The music is progressive and eclectic and is executed with
just a touch of evil. The musicianship alone is reason enough to
own this record and from my point of view it's very much worth the
investment. A lot of genres these days are getting into more
progressive styling's and in the metal world is no different with
more and more complex songs hitting the mainstream. So if you take
a VERY progressive band and make it a little heavier than normal
prog bands, the crossover is much more fluid as is the case with
Star One's lastest installation, "
Victims of the Modern
Age." Check out my album review of this release,

PRESS: Compared to 2002's "Space Metal," the overall sound
of "Victims Of The Modern Age" is darker, heavier, more
guitar-oriented, and slightly less "spacey." Arjen has also raised
the bar significantly when it comes to the album's sound: "I think
it's my best sounding album to date; it's a huge difference
compared to the first Star One. For the guitars I spent weeks
experimenting with different amps and settings in every combination
imaginable -- and it was worth it. The drums sound fantastic, and
the vocalists all outdid themselves, putting in even stronger
performances than they did the first time around."
With its stellar musicianship, strong melodies, meticulous
production and compelling concept, Star One "Victims of the Modern
Age" is yet another exciting project from one of rock's great
visionaries. It is available in two editions:
Special Edition first pressing 2-CD digibook: CD1 contains the 9
album tracks, CD2 contains 5 extra tracks plus a behind the scenes
video documenting the making of the album.
Regular Edition 1-CD jewel case: 9 album tracks!
